You might recognise this beautiful smiling face. Jenny is the amazing owner of the Source Bulk Foods Springfield and gosh is she passionate about health and bulk foods! We caught up with her to find out what started her health journey and led her to opening up her own bulk foods health store.
What made you want to own a Source Bulk Foods Store?
15 Years ago I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia after my first husband passed away. Having to figure out how to cure my fibromyalgia myself meant that I discovered that food is medicine. Over a period of a few years, I changed my diet and lost 30kgs. In trying to source all the different foods I was now eating, Lionel and I were travelling to the Sunshine Coast to purchase. When we saw this opportunity 4 years ago and how it aligned with my philosophy of food as medicine, we jumped at putting one in this area.
Where are you in your own health journey?
I cured my fibromyalgia and I just came back from a 165km walk in Northern Spain!
What made you want to become a health coach?
Discovering food is medicine, I want to be able to share with everyone how different life is when you realise food is the key to feeling better. I wanted to know more and increase my knowledge.
What do you love most about your job?
All the inspirational people we meet! And helping people begin their better health journey.
What is something people might not know about your store?
That we sell more than chocolate and nuts! (It is true. Each time the team from FitSwich visits we find something new. So many healthy cleaning products, skin care, teas, honey, kombucha, delicious snacks, products for baking, freshly made nut butter, treats and more!
What are some of your favourite products in store that you can’t live without?
I can’t live without Sunflower Seeds (I love Sunflower Seeds), Raw Chocolate Vegan Donuts and Spirulina Powder. Spirulina was one of the specific things I used to heal myself. Oooh and Nettle Tea! Nettle Tea is soooooo good for you!
What is your top tip for someone just getting started in their health journey?
Get a good quality Greens Powder and start including that in your diet. As you eat more and more of the good foods that enhance your health, you will want the foods that are harmful to your health less and less. It’s called ‘crowding out’.
How do you keep yourself fit and healthy when being so busy running your own business?
I try to prioritise my health first and I have a daily walking routine I stick to.
