Floating & Infrared Saunas

If you haven’t heard yet, City Cave has arrived in Ipswich, bringing an array of relaxation, detoxification and allied health options all under the one roof! Think massage, nutrition, Kinesiology, Psychology as well as City Cave’s signature infrared sauna and float experience.

So what is Floating?

Floating at City Cave Ipswich involves lying in a pool in a room that is designed for short term sensory deprivation. You will float in a large pool of water that contains super-saturated magnesium, 400kgs to be exact, which makes you completely buoyant. You will typically float for 60 minutes, in body temperature salt water, in a room devoid of light and sound (although if you are a first time floater you may choose to have music and soft lighting to start, whatever you are comfortable with).

Float pools have recently gained popularity among elite athletes, those who struggle with stress, and people with various health problems due to their huge range of benefits.

Why is Floating Beneficial?

The key benefits of floating are largely due to the high levels of magnesium in the pool and sensory deprivation environment in which you are immersed. Benefits can include:

  • Relaxation
  • Muscle and joint recovery
  • Help with managing chronic pain
  • Improved circulation
  • Lower cortisol
  • Reduction of stress and anxiety
  • Promotion of better sleep

The pools are potent in epsom salt (magnesium) solution to make the water extremely saturated. In fact, the water has a relative density of about 1.25, making it essentially impossible not to float. The usual benefits of using magnesium on the skin or soaking in a magnesium bath apply. In addition, magnesium is also known to help balance calcium levels in the body,  balance hormones, normalise blood pressure and much more.

Why Infrared Sauna?

Generally the team at City Cave will recommend use of their Infrared Sauna for the ultimate detoxification and relaxation experience, however you are more than welcome to use either service in isolation.

Saunas have long been used to help detoxify the body through sweating out toxins. The main benefits of the sauna can include:

  • Assistance with muscle repair
  • Detoxification – An increase in circulation and sweating can aid in detoxification
  • Skin purity – Your body increases blood flow in order to eliminate heat which can assist with clearer skin
  • Better sleep by reducing cortisol levels and relaxing the body
  • Improved cognitive function due to an increase of endorphins
  • Improved circulation through sweating which also helps reduce inflammation
  • Immune support
